Kautz-Uible Economics Institute
The Kautz-Uible Economics Institute creates opportunities for enhanced learning and growth for students, faculty, and alumni of the University of Cincinnati's Department of Economics. Established in October 2019, the institute's origins date back to 1982 with the creation of the Hewett-Kautz Fund. Since then, the institute has steadily expanded as its continues its transformational impact on the Department of Economics in the Carl H. Lindner College of Business.
The Kautz-Uible Economics Institute is proud to support a range of activities and initiatives, including:
- The Kautz-Uible Fellowship Program, which offers scholarships and the Caroline M. Kautz Book Prize to outstanding economics students;
- The annual James C. Kautz Lecture Series, presented by prominent economists;
- The Kautz-Uible Cryptoeconomics Lab, an innovative space where students, researchers, and companies collectively study the impact of blockchain technology and digital assets on the future economy;
- A Women in Economics Initiative, which provides scholarships and mentoring to economics students;
- A Pathways to Success Initiative, which offers scholarships and mentoring to first-generation economics students enrolled in the Lindner College of Business;
- Annual domestic and international educational travel opportunities for economics students;
- Faculty recruitment and retention through the establishment of chair professorships.
“The Kautz-Uible Fellowship Program empowered me to think broadly about the application of economics outside of the classroom. As a result, I developed a lasting passion for the economic principles that were the focus of my undergraduate studies, and I apply those principles daily in my practice as an antitrust lawyer.”
