Applying and Interviewing

Application process

Admission to Lindner Business Honors (LBH) is a competitive process based on a review of the whole student. Freshman applicants must have submitted a complete University of Cincinnati freshman admission application and selected a business major as your first choice (business undecided is included in this) no later than December 1.

LBH seeks students who have pursued the top level of curriculum within their high school, demonstrate leadership experience through co-curricular activities and articulate a compelling story in their application for admission. The middle 50% of current freshmen business honors students have a weighted high school GPA ranging from 3.97-4.34. The Lindner College of Business is test optional through 2025; test scores are not required to be considered for LBH.

Interview process FAQs

Exceptional high school seniors are invited to UC's campus to learn more about our unique opportunities and to be interviewed for the Lindner Business Honors program. All students offered a seat in LBH will be awarded scholarships. The time commitment for student interviews is approximately 2.5 hours. The time commitment for the parent portion is approximately 1.5 hours. We offer various start times to accommodate student schedules. Please choose the one that works best for you.

There is no separate Lindner Business Honors application. The UC Freshman Application (Common App) is the only application needed. The Lindner Undergraduate Admissions team will review all applications submitted by the December 1 deadline and extend offers to interview at the beginning of January.

Lindner Business Honors interviews take place in the Lindner College of Business at the University of Cincinnati, Carl H. Lindner Hall, 2906 Woodside Drive, Cincinnati, OH 45221. Parking is available in the Campus Green Garage, and each family will be given one parking voucher to cover parking costs. You will be directed to the Lindner College of Business atrium to check-in for your Honors interview. Additional details will be in your confirmation and reminder emails.

The goal is business casual, confident and ready to show us your best self. The staff of Lindner will be in red & black business casual attire. Our clothes will range from dress pants, button-up shirts with a collar, polos, dress shirts and dresses. Please wear something you are comfortable in. Lindner Career Services created a dress code guide if it’s helpful to you.

You have a critical decision to make about college and we feel that it is important to visualize yourself as a Bearcat. You will meet with current students, faculty and staff to see if the Lindner College of Business is a good fit for you. A face-to-face conversation gives you the chance to elaborate on why you believe Lindner Business Honors would be a good fit for you.

During your visit to campus, you'll be meeting with faculty, staff and current students.  Your interview day will consist of:

  • A welcome session and overview of Lindner Business Honors.
    • Parents: After attending the welcome session, there will be a student/alumni panel for you to attend for approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour.
  • An individual interview with faculty or staff (~15 min).
  • Tour of the state-of-the-art Lindner College of Business building.
  • Chance to interact with our current Lindner Business Honors students, staff and faculty.

Your session will take approximately two and a half hours.

You should prepare an elevator pitch telling us about yourself in 60 seconds or less. This doesn’t have to be a dump of your application or resume, but it should reflect how you would market yourself if you only had a minute to do it. Read up about elevator pitches and practice – this is your first impression with the interviewer – make it count!

For your 1:1 interview, we only have 15 minutes per student so please use the time to the best of your ability. Answer all questions thoroughly and ask for a moment to think if you need to. Make sure you answer all parts of the question.

Your 1:1 interview will explore the following themes…

  • Diversity & Inclusion/Inclusive Leadership: Inclusive Leadership is critical in creating a strong leader. Lindner seeks students who are aware of the value of diversity and inclusion and who can identify how they have or will engage in inclusive leadership. There are six signature traits of an inclusive leader:
    1. Visible commitment: the act of making diversity and inclusion a personal priority.
    2. Humility: modesty about capabilities and a willingness to learn.
    3. Awareness of bias: acceptance of persona blind spots and a desire to ensure a meritocracy.
    4. Curiosity about others: illustrating an open mind, listening with empathy and without judgement.
    5. Cultural intelligence: desire to be aware of others’ culture and adapt as required.
    6. Effective collaboration: empower others, focus on team cohesion .
  • Leadership & Collaboration: Lindner Business Honors students are leaders within the college. They are aware of their strengths and have sought opportunities to grow as a leader through collaboration and teamwork. We don’t expect students to come to us as fully formed leaders, but we do seek out those interested in developing their leadership skills and presence.
  • Resiliency & Adaptability: Facing setbacks or challenges and persevering through them is part of illustrating a desire to grow. Practicing resiliency and adaptability develops the self-awareness necessary to be a leader.
  • Motivation & Engagement: Individuals should understand what motivates them and how they engage in spaces related to their education and career pathway.
  • Presence: Lindner students understand the value of networking. They strive to create relationships and connections to support themselves and their peers and community. They practice confidence in discussing the topics above.

You will have a Lindner Ambassador guiding you around for the entire day. Ask them questions about classes, work experience (co-op), study abroad, campus life and more. The time for questions will be during your sessions or downtime with current students. This will help you determine if UC and the Lindner College of Business are right for you!

After attending the welcome session, there will be a student/alumni panel for parents to attend for ~45 minutes to 1 hour.

Decision regarding Lindner Business Honors will be extended by late February. Currently, there are no wait lists for LBH.
