Data Mining
Course Description: Most organizations do not suffer from a lack of data, but from a lack of actionable insights based on that data. Powerful techniques now exist to take messy data sets and generate surprising insights. Textbooks and websites tout the power of data mining, but few sources actually discuss the difficulties and challenges that must be overcome with real world data. This two-day workshop will focus on the challenges of building predictive models in the real world and techniques experienced practitioners apply when developing their models.
Material will be accessible to novice practitioners, but some experience with common predictive models and one or more analytics software packages such as "R" will be helpful.
To prepare for this class attendees should download and become familiar with R software.

Instructor
Kris Still is Lead Human Capital Analytics Consultant at Fifth Third Bank. At Fifth Third he develops analytics and business intelligence solutions for the Human Resources division of the bank. Prior to joining Fifth Third, Kris was a Data Scientist and Manager of Analytics at Recovery Decision Science and Unifund. Mr. Still was Unifund's first full-time analytics professional and has played a pivotal role in developing and maintaining Unifund's suite of predictive models. Mr. Still holds a B.S. in Finance from Miami University and is completing an M.S. in Business Analytics from the University of Cincinnati, where he was the 2013 Analytics Student of the Year. Mr. Still has also been actively involved with the University of Cincinnati's Center for Business Analytics and the development of the Cincinnati Tableau User's Group.
