Bob Goen and Marianne Curan from WRRM (WARM 98) Cincinnati will emcee the University of Cincinnati, Goering Center’s 17th Annual Family & Private Business Awards.

Cincinnati, Ohio – August 26, 2016  Bob Goen and Marianne Curan are the morning show husband and wife team for WRRM (Warm 98).  Goen is known for ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT, THE MISS UNIVERSE PAGEANT and a variety of game shows.  Marianne is an improvisational comedienne seen frequently on FOX, ABC, HGTV, in sitcoms as well as a dozen appearances on THE TONIGHT SHOW with JAY LENO.  The duo will put down their radio microphones in exchange for the podium at the 17th Annual Goering Center for Family & Private Business Awards.

“Bob and Marianne will bring a creative ‘punch’ to the presentation of the award winning family and private businesses across our region,” said Larry Grypp, president, Goering Center. “Their dynamic presentation of our awards last year was exceptional, so we invited them for an encore.”

Presentation and celebration of the awards will be held Tuesday, September 13th from 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm at the JACK Cincinnati Casino, Downtown Cincinnati.

Seventy-five semi-finalists will be honored for their success as Tri-State family and private businesses. A complete list of the semi-finalists can be found at: 2016 FBA Semi-Finalists.  Winners were selected in six categories, three to honor family businesses and three to honor private businesses.  From each category, an independent panel of judges selected the two finalists and one Family and Private Business of the Year based on their hiring and employment practices, specifically as to whether those practices have helped them unify a multigenerational workforce.

In addition to the Family and Private Business Awards, the Goering Center will also honor the Drees Company with induction into the Family and Private Business Hall-of-Fame.   Each year, the Goering Center reviews potential recipients from all over the region and selects one candidate for induction.  Drees Company was selected for their years of service to the community, business and the entire Cincinnati region.  Drees Company’s outstanding achievements were measured in four areas: community service, community image, employment growth and philanthropy.  Drees will be only the fourth company selected to the Goering Center Family Business Hall of Fame, joining these other distinguished businesses: LaRosa’s (2011), The Castellini Companies (2013) and Graeter’s, Inc. (2015).  The 2016 Baldwin Volunteer Award Winner for exceptional volunteer service to the Center will also be named at the annual award gala.

Over half of all companies in the United States are family businesses (Harvard Business School) and these family businesses comprise approximately 63 percent of the National Gross Domestic Product.  It is estimated that there are nearly 4,500 family businesses in the Cincinnati region with 10 or more employees; the Goering Center has 330 of these businesses as active members with a goal of 400 members by the end of 2018.  Membership is not a prerequisite for award nomination, as fewer than half of the semi-finalists are current members of the Goering Center.
