Lindner Takes Flight

Students left no corner of the globe untraveled during the 2023-24 academic year

2024-Audencia-Spring-Juan-Carlos-Solis

Juan Carlos Solis, BS, BBA '26, experienced a semester abroad in Nantes, France at the Audencia School of Management.

Cultural competency, collaboration and global business problem-solving are just a few of the tools students acquire studying abroad with Lindner. These experiences act as an extension of our “PACE” (professionalism, academics, character, engagement) curriculum for students at every level.

Study abroad by the numbers

  • 485 Lindner students abroad
    • Program breakdon by number of students:
      • Faculty-led, short term: 366, including 38 graduate students
      • Long-term, summer or semester: 115
      • Co-op/internship abroad: 4
  • 58 companies visited university engagements
  • 35 faculty and staff leading 14 short-term programs
  • 33 countries traveled
  • 22 incoming international exchange students
Being in a classroom filled with different countries, cultures and personalities — and, at the same time, we all share many things in common — is priceless. It’s so rewarding to learn about others and about yourself while having fun. Being abroad takes the learning farther than just the classroom.

The 2023-24 Lindner study abroad scrapbook

Students acquired souvenirs from their adventures around the globe in the form of new insights into global problem solving and greater cultural awareness.

Home away from home

LBH-Mexico-1

Seventy Lindner Business Honors students were immersed in Mexican culture while living with host families during spring break in Querétaro, Mexico.

“What has impacted me the most is the influence it had on my personal growth and overall worldview. Getting the opportunity to fully immerse myself in a vibrant new culture, especially being in the homestay, has allowed me to get out of my comfort zone in ways I could not have imagined and gain a deeper appreciation for diversity.”

- Paige Mefford, BBA '27

New, new, new

IRM-2

The new insurance and risk management global destinations experience took students on a whirlwind journey to Hamburg, Germany, and London to learn about risk insurance from professionals and experts from Lloyd’s of London, Gallagher Re and Kühne Logistics University.

“Lloyd’s of London stood out for its awe-inspiring architecture and rich history. Witnessing hundreds of underwriters deliberating on policies firsthand was an experience beyond compare, highlighting the intricate workings of the insurance industry in a tangible and unforgettable manner.”

- Ellie Brorein, BBA '24

Lessons from down under

Australia-Woolworths-Visit

The Lindner alumni network knows no bounds! Students taking INTB 5022: Economics of Immigration connected with Lindner alumnus Chris Speelman, BBA ’04, general manager of group strategy at Woolsworth Group in Sydney, Australia, during the fall semester.

“Taking part in a UC study abroad program was one of the most formative experiences of my life. I loved getting the opportunity to share my story with fellow Bearcats, talking about the unique culture of The Woolworths Group and what a career in consulting and corporate strategy can look like.”

- Chris Speelman, BBA '04
