Thanks to the generosity of Timothy (Tim) Johnson, PhD, and his wife Janet, Lindner is home to the Johnson Investment Institute and the Johnson Investment Counsel Investment Lab. With its simulated trading floor, the Investment Lab is a focal point of innovation within Lindner Hall.

Tim Johnson is the founder of Cincinnati-based Johnson Investment Counsel and a former University of Cincinnati finance professor. As both a practitioner and former professor, Johnson understands the importance of providing students and faculty with access to state-of-the-art industry software and real-time data.

The Investment Lab provides students with hands-on experience using industry tools and data, which will improve their future employment opportunities. Additionally, Lindner faculty have the opportunity to incorporate the Lab into their finance curriculum.

The Investment Lab follows the schedule outlined below, unless it is booked for a class, workshop or other event.

  • Monday through Thursday: 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Friday: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Saturday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Investment Lab is available for classes, workshops and other events. All of these activities must be requested and confirmed through the university's room scheduling system, 25Live.

The Johnson Investment Lab utilizes financial data accessible from the Lindner College of Business Library. This data comes from numerous business and economic databases and datasets in platforms such as Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS), DataStream, and Global Insight. Additionally, students can use the Business Research Guides which detail how to find and use financial data at the University of Cincinnati. These cover locating company, industry, economic data, as well as other financial resources.
