Deloitte Competition

During the 2023-24 and 2024-25 academic years, Lindner students have advanced to the final of the Deloitte FanTAXtic case competition.

This case competition familiarizes undergraduates with experiences and challenges that can arise in the tax industry. Jason Bangert, PhD, assistant professor of accounting, serves as faculty advisor for Lindner's student team.

According to Bangert, the Deloitte FanTAXtic competition offers students a test-drive in life as a tax professional and the opportunity to sharpen their “problem solving, time management and communication skills.”

The “Accounting Bearcats” have again advanced to the Deloitte FanTAXtic finals after winning their regional competition for the second successive year. This year’s regional competition included 72 teams from 56 colleges and universities.

The final is slated for January 24-26, 2025, at Deloitte University. The Lindner/UC student team includes Nora Touassi, BBA ’25 (team lead), Avni Singh, BBA ’26, Logan Palmer, BBA ’27, and first-year student Owen Walker.

Nan Zhou, department head, professor and Norwood and Marjorie Geis Chair of Accounting, complimented Bangert’s dedication.

“Jason’s office is next to mine, so I have witnessed firsthand the numerous hours Jason has spent mentoring and discussing with members from Lindner’s team,” said Zhou. “We are incredibly proud of the enormous efforts by Jason and his team, which led to this exceptional outcome.”

“I’m grateful that our students had the opportunity to participate in Deloitte’s FanTAXtic case competition and for Deloitte’s continued commitment to our students in this way,” said Bangert.

Nearly 50 colleges and universities competed in regional competitions around the country, which laddered up to the national final in Texas. Each competing team was assigned a fictional business, “Premier PickleBall.”

The UC team provided recommendations for how Premier PickleBall should be formed in their regional competition. For the national final, they analyzed the tax and non-tax considerations of opening a new location and integrating a new business partner.
