What is International Business?
The objective of the International Business major is to broaden students' awareness and understanding of challenges faced by businesses in today's global economy through diverse business courses and experiences.
Courses are designed to enhance the knowledge and skills developed in other business courses and provide proficiency in international business. The program builds on the core global business environment course and covers international aspects of accounting, finance, management, cultural differences, marketing, economics or law.
An international experience is required for this major. Lindner's International Programs Office offers 14 faculty-led short study abroad programs and eight semester-long exchanges with international partner universities. Options range from three credits for a one week intensive program overseas, to two-week six-credit programs, to 15-credit semester-long exchanges. Students may also complete the international experience requirement by participating in a co-op or internship work experience in a foreign country for a semester.

Real world co-op or professional experience: Students in the international business major benefit from a wide array of co-op experiences, both domestically and internationally. Students have co-oped with local Cincinnati-based firms that do business globally and have used their cross-cultural management skills to navigate buy, selling, sourcing and service from providers throughout the world. Students have also participated in co-op experiences in Germany, Chile, China, and Singapore that have enriched their global experience.
The international business major is a gateway to many jobs in the global economy that will compliment a second major or minor in another functional area of business. For example, completing double majors in international business and finance leads to opportunities in the field of international finance and banking. Integrating the IB major with the marketing major can provide experience in adapting projects, products and services for international markets. Combining an international business major with a language minor makes you marketable to many multinational companies.
