Why study International Business?

The Graduate Certificate in International Business is designed to give students in-depth expertise in cross-functional areas related to doing business in a global context. This includes issues such as cross-cultural management, global entrepreneurship, international marketing, international operations management, supply chain management, strategic management in the global context, and international financial management. Additionally, students have the opportunity to participate in global short-course seminar programs (1-2 weeks in length) in Europe, South America and China. This certificate will provide deep, cross-functional knowledge that is useful to those with a strong business background as well as those with expertise in other areas, such as engineering, medicine, design, liberal arts, etc., who have moved into, or are seeking to move into, a managerial role. The certificate emphasizes the use of logical/critical thinking and case analytic methods to solve global business problems.

The certificate in International Business Certificate is offered through the International Programs Office and the Management Department in the College of Business. Students will work closely with faculty experts in global business from diverse disciplines. This certificate has been developed in conjunction with leading Cincinnati-area companies to provide the necessary knowledge and skills to allow graduates to succeed in global business. Students who complete the certificate in International Business will be well positioned to improve effectiveness and increase efficiencies of existing global business operations or to move into new countries or regions. This certificate is also an excellent means of gaining a competitive advantage for those seeking, or entering, jobs with global business responsibilities.

The certificate in International Business can be completed in one calendar year. Admission Requirements

  • Must hold a baccalaureate degree
  • Unofficial academic transcripts used for admissions review. When offered admission, official transcripts are required.
  • One letter of recommendation
  • Essay
  • Resume

The International Business Graduate Certificate is granted to those who satisfactorily complete the required course work, carrying a minimum GPA of 3.0 or more. The certificate must be completed within five years of acceptance into the program. All students must contract for graduation.

Students must complete the entire certificate program in residence

Graduate certificates are designed to be completed on a part-time basis and are not available to international applicants who require full-time status. International students can complete graduate certificates as part of a graduate degree program.

The University of Cincinnati and all regional campuses are accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.
