Canvas Trainings through Spring 2020

Get to know the Canvas basics and how to get a headstart on your course. We will be hosting our trainings on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in room 2215. Please bring a laptop to follow along!

 

Canvas Workshop: Using Discussion Boards

Discussion boards can be a really effective teaching tool, even for on-campus classes, if they’re used correctly. Join us for a discussion about using discussion boards, and tips for making them a success in your class!

 

Using Polling / Clickers in the Classroom

Using polling (or clickers) is a great way to get instant feedback from your class, and can help to make a large class more engaging. In this session, we’ll talk about various technologies you can use for this, as well as suggestions for structuring your polls pedagogically to have the most impact.

Creating Accessible Course Documents

We’ll cover tips for creating accessible course materials, as well as how to remedy some of the most common accessibility issues in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. We’ll also spend some time on the accessibility checkers in Canvas. Feel free to bring a laptop to follow along.

Canvas Workshop - Submitting Final Grades

Automatic grade passback to Catalyst won’t be in Canvas until Spring 2020. In this workshop, we provided clear steps for exporting grades from Canvas and importing them into Catalyst.

Canvas Workshop: SpeedGrader

In this workshop, Lindner's Instructional Designer, Kelly Battles, went over how to use SpeedGrader to grade student assignments as well as how to organize gradebooks. Faculty/Staff brought their labtops to follow along with this interactive session.

New Adjunct Training

For new and returning instructors (despite the name). We discussed active learning strategies, went over how to use the classroom technology, and provided a quick introduction to Canvas.
