Chris Lutz, BBA '12, used his selling prowess to win a $1,000 Sales Champion Scholarship offered by Reynolds & Reynolds, a company that caters to car dealers, in Dayton, Ohio.
“The purpose of the Reynolds & Reynolds Sales Champion Scholarship is to provide a small financial stipend to a professional sales student who epitomizes professionalism and exhibits a passion for selling,” says Jane Sojka, associate professor-educator of marketing and director of the UC Sales Center in the Lindner College of Business.
Lutz personifies the sales professional description.
“He is professional in all business interactions, whether by email, phone messages or face-to-face communication,’ Sojka says. “He exhibits a strong work ethic and is passionate about the sales profession.”
Lutz, a marketing major and member of the UC Varsity Sales Team, had to complete an application and tell the company why he was interested in a sales career. He currently works as a sales intern for Bush Truck Leasing and is a head strength coach at First 10 Speed, both in Mason, Ohio.
As a scholarship requirement, he must apply the award toward tuition and serve as a brand ambassador on campus to create awareness for Reynolds and Reynolds through spring. He is also expected to help with Reynolds and Reynolds Career Day on April 5, 2012, at the Lindner College of Business, helping to facilitate student-employer connections.
The application process was a joint effort of the UC Sales Center and Career Services department in the Lindner College of Business that recently held a career fair in which Lutz and 29 other students attended.
“The Sales Champion Program is an outstanding way for companies to gain more visibility on campus,” Sojka says.
