A new program in the Department of Marketing at the Carl H. Lindner College of Business aims to highlight academic excellence and promote professional growth beyond the classroom.
The Marketing Leadership Circle is a pilot program that targets high-achieving marketing students and “offers them opportunities, resources and motivation to explore and expand their knowledge and portfolio of experiences during their college career,” says Ric Sweeney, undergraduate marketing program director and assistant professor-educator in the Lindner College of Business. Sweeney will serve as director of the program.
The program intends to build individual and collective strength within the marketing major by connecting students with opportunities to network, partake in case competitions and partner with Greater Cincinnati companies for real-world business experiences.
“As one of the largest majors on UC’s campus, we wanted to recognize students who have great potential to succeed in their marketing careers,” says Karen Machleit, marketing department head and professor at the Lindner College of Business.
Program members will be selected by an annual spring application and review process. To be eligible, students are required to have a minimum 3.5 GPA and 50 semester hours of course work. Selections will be based on overall academic success, engagement in the marketing profession, leadership and character.
As members, students must serve as college and program ambassadors, join professional marketing organizations and attend marketing-related events.
Marketing students have until April 30, 2012 to apply. Members of the Marketing Leadership Circle will be selected in early May.
