Seniors Max Hilb, Ryan Johnson, Chris Munz and Alex Schneider participated in the National Team Selling Competition at Indiana University.

On Friday, October 14, 2011, twenty-one sales teams from universities across the U.S. met in Bloomington, Indiana to participate in the fifth annual National Team Selling Competition. The Kelley School of Business at Indiana University hosted the event and the Center for Global Sales Leadership and Altria Sales & Distribution were sponsors. The UC Varsity Sales Team, comprised of Carl H. Lindner College of Business undergraduate students, won the networking award its first year participating in the competition.
The school sales teams were made up of four undergraduate sales students each. Each team role played as a fictional company—Nature’s Junction—whose goal was to sign a contract selling popcorn to the Wildly Fresh grocery store chain. The team scheduled a pre-appointment meeting with the buyer in the morning prior to their presentation in the afternoon with the marketing team. The teams’ presentations were taped and judges provided feedback on each team’s performance. Altria Sales & Distribution sales executives role-played the position of buyers and senior management and guest faculty served as judges.
"When it came to determining the prize for the team that did the best job networking in this competition, there was only one clear-cut winner," notes Jennifer Whaley, from award sponsor Altria. "Although we were not able to vote, if we could, we would have voted for this team. All 18 members of the Altria staff talked with at least one and usually more than one, of the members of this team."
Representing UC in its first attendance at the competition were Carl H. Lindner College of Business seniors, Max Hilb, Ryan Johnson, Chris Munz and Alex Schneider. The team was coached by Jane Sojka, PhD, associate professor-educator of marketing, and doctoral student Riley Dugan, with John Cox as sales executive on loan from Total Quality Logistics (TQL). The Varsity Sales Team’s attendance at the competition was sponsored by TQL and the Lindner College of Business Board of Governors.
In addition to Indiana University’s team, the universities represented included the University of Washington,  Baylor University, the University of Florida, Penn State University, Michigan State University, Arizona among others. Awards were presented to the winning teams at a dinner hosted at the Indiana University Kelley School of Business.
