UC Associate Professor of Management Larry Gales discusses what the loss of Chiquita means for Cincinnati’s image.

Larry Gales, associate professor of management and academic director of international programs in the UC Carl H. Lindner College of Business, said the loss of global foods producer Chiquita Brands International to the local economy influences the city’s image.

Chiquita is moving operations to Charlotte, NC, to minimize business costs, pay fewer taxes and wages and receive abatements, Gales said.

“The job loss is real,” he said. “It’s people we’re losing to Charlotte. I think the biggest impact is psychologically.”
