Is The Manufactory a makerspace, hackerspace, Techshop or Fablab?
Spaces like ours are a relatively new phenomenon, so the terminology is not well defined. Generally, hackerspaces are small spaces centered on computers and electronics. Some hackerspaces may have other hardware for small making projects but lack the full array of equipment offered by makerspaces like The Manufactory.
Other terms that are commonly used are Techshop or Fablab. These are both trademarked names use by spaces in other parts of the US. We operate most similarly to Techshop, offering much of the same equipment and a similar member experience
If you are a UC student who likes to create, you can become a member or take educational classes at The Manufactory. The Manufactory allows anyone to learn new skills to create anything as Cincinnati’s only fully equipped makerspace. Full-time students can receive a discount for yearly/monthly memberships.
