Data Management & SQL
Advanced Data Management is a continuation of the topics discussed in the Introduction Data Management course. This course focuses on dimensional modeling and data warehousing techniques, and teaches participants advanced SQL code. SQL development will focus on learning procedural language SQL (PL/SQL, Transact-SQL, TSQL) to create flexible and useable solutions to solve test business cases. The class will finish with coverage of current database options (cloud services), discussion of NoSQL (big data solutions), and learning how to consume data from a database into analytical tools. This class will build upon an individual's strengths in business, information technology and analytics, and is meant for those wanting to increase their knowledge regarding databases and programming in SQL.
Twenty-five percent of class time will be used for instructor-guided hands-on lab time and applications of data management.

The course is taught by Russell Spangler, a specialist in business intelligence, database design, and database programming. Mr. Spangler is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Cincinnati in the Carl H. Lindner College of Business who teaches Data Management to graduate business analytics students. His business and information system background provides the abilities to teach technical subjects such as database design, data management, and database programming to non-information-technology students. Mr. Spangler holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Systems from Northern Kentucky University and a Master of Science in Information Systems degree from the University of Cincinnati. Over the last eight years, he has held business intelligence positions for marketing and financial companies in the Cincinnati area. When he is not living in the world of data, Russell enjoys the culinary arts and has been renovating a Victorian home in Cincinnati.
