Why study Operations Excellence?

The Graduate Certificate in Operations Excellence is designed to give students in-depth expertise in the functional areas of a business related to operations planning and execution. This includes issues such as supply chain management, supplier sourcing, staff scheduling, inventory reduction, quality initiatives, cost control and project management. This certificate will provide deep, specific knowledge that is useful to those with a strong business background as well as those with expertise in other areas, such as engineering, medicine, design, liberal arts, etc., who have moved into, or are seeking to move into, a managerial role. The certificate emphasizes the use of logical thinking and analytical methods to solve operational problems in service and manufacturing environments.

The certificate in Operations Excellence is offered through the Department of Operations & Business Analytics in the Carl H Lindner College of Business. Students will work closely with faculty experts in operations management and business analytics. This certificate has been developed in conjunction with leading Cincinnati-area companies to provide the necessary knowledge and skills to allow graduates to succeed in business. Students who complete the certificate in Operations Excellence will be well positioned to improve existing business processes, reduce costs and increase efficiencies. This certificate is also an excellent means of gaining a competitive advantage for those seeking, or entering, jobs with managerial responsibilities including cost metrics and operational efficiencies.

The certificate in Operations Excellence can be completed in one calendar year and requires 12 quarter-credit hours. These credit hours include a core course in operations management and then a flexible choice of 8 credit hours of advanced electives. The credits earned in the Operations Excellence certificate can be applied toward an MBA or other advanced degree, pending admission to the degree program and within the limits stated by that program. http://business.uc.edu/graduate/certificates/cert-operations.html
