Computing Recommendations

Student Computing Recommendations

All students are strongly encouraged to have access to their own computer for the duration of all degree programs. The college provides state of the art computer labs, but lab capacity is limited and the labs cannot remain open at all times. Laptops provide the greatest access to 24x7 computing both on and off campus, enabling students to utilize the mobility of the college's wireless network.
The College of Business IT team has developed computing standards to ensure compatibility with the college network and application software. The college and the university have established relationships with major IT vendors to make cutting-edge hardware and software available to all students.

Student Computer Purchase

UCIT negotiates with many vendors for university equipment. Given the strong vendor relationships we have developed, we are also pleased to announce that we have negotiated special rates, when possible, for our staff, students, faculty and alumni to purchase technology equipment for personal use.

Apple products

Apple has a fixed price model, meaning that prices on equipment are relatively the same if you choose to purchase at any of the Apple Stores.  For your convenience, the UC Bookstore carries a complete line of Apple products with the same academic discount as is available at the Apple Stores.

PC products

We currently have an agreement with one vendor: HP.

Dell - UCit has negotiated special pricing on Dell computers for personal purchases. Although Dell’s prices are attractive, the individual buyer may be able to negotiate a better price elsewhere. However, Dell offers additional value such as a three-year warranty included with the purchase, and the high quality standards that make Dell a market leader in the computer industry. Pleases call the UC Bookstore at 556-1700 Option 6.

Hewlett Packard/Compaq – HP has extended their educational discounts for staff, students, parents of incoming students, faculty and alumni wishing to purchase personal computers. Currently, the discounts are up to 10% below starting price.

To view merchandise and pricing, visit www.hpdirect.com/academy/uc. Fill out your sign-in information and enter UC’s pin code of AP4973. Look for the HP Academy Tag (HPA) to see your special savings. Or, you can call 1-866-433-2018 (remember to mention your pin code).
