Expectations and Best Practices for Online Learning
Keys to Successful Online Instruction
Success in LCB Online Programs
Upon logging into your Blackboard course for the first time, you will see an item at the top of your menu bar titled "Attendance Verification". PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE this menu item. This item includes instructions and a single question, non-graded quiz that students must complete to verify their participation in your course. Faculty are not required to grade this assessment or even read it, however, you may change the assignment subject to stipulations noted in Blackboard. If a student submits the assignment, that activity will be automatically pulled into Catalyst to show participation for your course. Students that do NOT complete the assignment will be deemed as not participating, unless a faculty member has separately noted participation in Catalyst (not Blackboard). Please remember the quiz is set as a non-graded assessment and will NOT affect final grade calculations. Finally, we encourage you to remind students to complete this assessment in a timely manner if they are expecting to receive any type of federal financial aid.
More details about "why" and alternatives to using this assessment (including not using it) will be distributed from the Provost office prior to the start of each semester.
If you have any questions or need assistance with a course copy to make sure this Attendance Verification remains in your course (or if it gets accidentally deleted) please see the the document below for instructions or contact stolljn@uc.edu .
