Brussels, Belgium and Paris, France Kolodzik Business Scholars Program

Program Description: Spend spring break in Brussels, the administrative heart of the European Union, and gain an understanding of the influence of history and culture on business practices in Europe. Through company visits and presentations, you gain insight into what you may anticipate if given an overseas work assignment. You will attend a lecture at our partner, the UniversitĂ© Catholique de Louvain, and will have the opportunity to meet European students.  The week ends with a trip to Paris, France for free time to explore and soak in the European culture.

Course Registration: INTB3098  Understanding European Business,  3 credits. Spring semester registration is required to travel over spring break.

Prerequisite: INTB3080 Global Business Environment (This can be taken spring semester in conjunction with INTB3098.)

Eligibility: Kolodzik Business Scholars with sophomore status or higher.

Living Accommodations: Students will share rooms in modest two star hotels.

Transportation:  A group flight from Cincinnati to Paris and return Brussels to Cincinnati as well as a train ticket from Paris to Brussels is included with the program.

Travel Documents:

1) Passport    - Download the passport application from www.travel.state.gov

(Allow 6-8 weeks for delivery.)

2) International Student ID: $25 available from UC International, 3134 One Edwards.

The City of Brussels

Brussels is the capital of Belgium and the administrative centre of the European Union. This has earned the city the title of the Capital of Europe. Brussels has been given its character by the coexistence of French and Flemish culture, and it is nowadays home to nationalities around the world, adding a cosmopolitan flavour to its atmosphere. The vibrant atmosphere of Brussels is further enhanced by picturesque medieval streets, lively squares, beautiful boulevards, impressive monuments, spacious parks, cosy cafés, interesting restaurants and an active cultural life.

The City of Paris

Built on the ruins of the Roman city of Lutecia, Paris was officially founded in 360 AD as a fortress on an Island on the Sienne river. Later is was connected to the mainland on both sides by wooden bridges. The city began to flourish in the tenth century, when Paris became the capital and the most important city in France. In the year 1789, The French Revolution began. Paris was turned into a bloodbath and the king was killed. After the revolution, Napoleon Bonaparte led Paris in a surge of cultural expansion. Many great artists and writers have come from Paris. Until this day Paris is one of the world centers of art and literature.  Paris is the capital of France and is considered the fashion capital of the world.
