MS-Business Analytics Admissions Procedures

Admission is generally for the Autumn term, due to our course schedule.  In some cases, however, admission for other terms is possible, depending on your background and needs, especially if you need substantial coursework from the MS - Business Analytics Prerequisite Requirements (particularly in the mathematics program prerequisites, at least almost all of which need to be completed before starting the MS - Business Analytics core-course sequences in the Autumn term).

Starting in Autumn 2012, UC is moving from a quarter-based calendar to a semester-based calendar; the first class day is August 27, 2012.

For admission to begin the program in the Autumn semester, you should complete your application by August 1 of that same calendar year.  (You should complete the entire MS - Business Analytics application as soon as possible. If your application is nearly complete and you need a little extra time beyond August 1, please contact the Program Director in advance.)  In addition, for priority consideration for financial aid starting in the Autumn semester, and for all international applicants, applications should be completed by the preceding March 15; however, we will still consider financial-aid requests and international-student applications made later than March 15 if budget and time permit.

A mandatory orientation program for Autumn semester occurs in mid- to early- August.

All of the following items must be completed/received either as part of the UC Graduate School's online application, or by the Graduate Programs Office in the Lindner College of Business before your application file can be evaluated:

  • MS - Business Analytics Application Form (non-online part), a four-page PDF file.  Either print and fill out by hand, or use a computer to fill out, and send either in hardcopy form or e-mail (scans are fine) to graduate@uc.edu.
    • This form includes space for indication of interest in being considered for financial aid.
    • This form also asks you to write two short essays in response to questions there (simply submit your essays as separate documents, either as hardopy or e-mail to graduate@uc.edu).
    • It is essential that you clearly indicate on this form a working, reliable e-mail address that you check regularly, since this will be our primary way of communicating with you during the application/admissions process.
  • UC Graduate School Online Application.  This includes:  establishing an account there;  demographic and name/address information;  prior colleges/universities attended and degrees earned;  contact information (most importantly, working e-mail addresses) for two people willing to write letters of recommendation for you and who should be automatically contacted to provide letters directly to us (at least one should be a former professor or academic advisor, and neither should be a relative, personal friend, current or past fellow student, or current or past co-worker);  and payment of the $65 application fee for domestic students or $70 application fee for international students by credit card or electronic check.
  • Your resume, which should include description of your prior degrees and any relevant work experience.  Again, hardcopy or e-mail to graduate@uc.edu is acceptable.
  • Official report of your GRE or GMAT scores (should be no more than five years old, but exceptions can be requested from the Program Director).  For information on the GRE, see www.ets.org/gre; for information on the GMAT, see www.mba.com.  Be sure to specify that official score reports be sent to the University of Cincinnati, and for the MS - Business Analytics Program in the Lindner College of Business.  Either the GRE or GMAT is acceptable, we don't really have a preference, and we typically get many of each.
  • Official transcripts for all undergraduate and any prior graduate work.
  • For international applicants (except those from several English-speaking countries listed on p. 15 of the UC Graduate Handbook), official report of your TOEFL score (or IELTS or PTE) unless you have a prior bachelor's or graduate degree from a U.S. university.  Be sure to specify that official score reports be sent to the University of Cincinnati, and for the MS - Business Analytics Program in the Lindner College of Business.  The following scores will automatically meet our admissions requirements for English-language proficiency: a TOEFL score of at least 100 (internet-based, or IBT), or 250 (computer-based, or CBT), or 600 (paper-based, or PBT); or an IELTS score of at least 7.0; or a PTE score of at least 68.  International applicants with scores below these may still apply to the MS - Business Analytics program, and should contact the Program Director for alternative ways to demonstrate English proficiency, such as a phone interview; however, an official TOEFL (or IELTS or PTE) score report is still required.

Send all information (other than the online UC Graduate School Online Application) to:

We do need official reports of test scores (GRE, GMAT, TOEFL, IELTS, PTE as appropriate) and all prior transcripts; the other documents can be supplied as either hardcopy or files (scans are acceptable) e-mailed to graduate@uc.edu.  Please do not send any application materials directly to the Program Director ... doing so will only slow down the process.  Your application file must be complete in order to be reviewed.

For international applicants, additional information (e.g., help with visa issues) may be obtained from the International Student Services Office (ISSO).
