Tuition & Aid

The department offers a limited amount of financial aid on a competitive basis to full-time students. We encourage you to apply for this aid. Only full-time students may receive financial aid.

Types of Awards

University Graduate Scholarships (UGS) are available on a limited basis for incoming full-time students. These awards cover a portion of your tuition costs. UGS require no service contribution. Awards are made on the basis of academic performance, personal/professional achievements, and recommendations.

University Graduate Assistantships (UGA) are available on a limited basis for incoming full-time students. Students who are awarded a UGA will typically also get a UGS. The UGS will cover a portion of tuition costs depending on award and the UGA will pay a monthly stipend. UGA awards are based on job-related skills, work experience, GRE/GMAT score and academic performance without regard to financial need. Graduate assistants will be required to perform assigned duties for up to 20 hours a week. Typical duties include assisting faculty in the classroom, conducting recitation sections, etc.

Taft Graduate Enhancement Fellowships may also be available for exceptional students. These awards, typically provided as a supplement to at UGA, provide support without any additional teaching or research assistant duties in the department.

Financial Aid Decision Process

The first round of financial aid decisions are typically made in mid March, so to get the highest consideration for financial aid you should have a complete application folder into our department by March 1.  If funds are available, a second round of financial aid decisions will be made in early April.

Special Note for International Students: The department does offer some financial aid to international students on a competitive basis. The international students who have entered our program have done well academically and have found competitive jobs with their degrees in a wide range of industries and organizations.

Needs-based financial aid

Several need-based financial assistance programs are also available to qualified students. Eligibility is determined through the needs analysis system required by the federal government. The Financial Aid Form is available from the Graduate Programs Office. The self-reported information in your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will be used to decide eligibility. You may submit your FAFSA via the Internet.
