Conditional Admission

Note:  The conditional admission applies to students who have met all of the English proficiency requirements.  If this is you, please read on!

We often have students who have successfully completed an undergraduate degree, are interested in our MA program, but do not have the necessary background to succeed in the program. For example, students may have taken only introductory economics, or may be missing only an intermediate macroeconomics class.

If you are one of these students, we are now offering you the opportunity to be conditionally accepted into our MA program. If our evaluation of your application file indicates that we would accept you into our program if you had the required background, we can accept you into the program conditional on you obtaining the required background coursework with at least 'B' grade. Once you have acquired the necessary background, we will formally admit you to our graduate program.

While necessary background courses can be obtained from a variety of institutions, please be aware that all of the undergraduate coursework you might need is offered quarterly at the University of Cincinnati. Students may take classes at UC without being enrolled in a UC degree program. Their official status is 'non-matriculated,' which is a traditional academic term meaning 'not enrolled in a degree program.'For details about the steps necessary to do this is available online at:

Please note: Conditionally admitted students will almost always have to start the program in the fall semester. Therefore, if you need to take some undergraduate courses for admission, we urge you to consider doing so in the Spring and Summer semesters.
