UC Carl H. Lindner College of Business professor and PhD alumnus share their thoughts on the film “Moneyball.”

Mike Fry, associate professor of operations management, and PhD alumnus Jim Cochran, both well known for applying analytics to sports, comment on the new movie “Moneyball” in the September 23, 2011 article on Inside Science.org. The recently released movie, starring Brad Pitt, is based on the book of the same name by author Michael Lewis.

“Moneyball” tells the story of how the Oakland A’s baseball team used statistical analysis in innovative ways to make the playoffs each year from 2000 to 2003, despite being disadvantaged with a much smaller payroll.

"They definitely had an advantage even above the three pitchers they had," said Fry.
