Identity notions a part of second ‘Life of the Mind’ Lecture Series on May 8.

Elaine Hollensbe, associate professor of management at the Carl H. Lindner College of Business, is one of three UC faculty to speak 3:30-5PM on a topic of Identity in the second ”Life of the Mind Series” on Tuesday, May 8 in the Russell C. Myers Alumni Center.

Her talk is entitled “Where is the Me among We?" and focuses on managing personal and social identifies and the tension involved in balancing the two.

“In defining who we are (identity), we draw on our various groups to which we belong, as an example occupation, clubs, families, etc.,” Hollensbe says. “At times, there can be tension when social identity becomes all-encompassing or overly demanding.”

As an example, she will discuss her observations of Episcopal priests and work they engage in to manage both identities.

The free public event features interdisciplinary conversations centered on a one-word theme (Identity) followed by audience Q & A.
