UC professor says there are many beneficial reasons for municipalities to acquire land, but also potential watch outs.

Shaun Bond, associate professor of real estate at the University of Cincinnati Carl H. Lindner College of Business, was quoted in the Hamilton Journal News on Monday, July 4 regarding why cities acquire land. "The advantages include improved community amenities and the potential for more employment or a greater tax revenue stream should a city be able to use the land as an incentive to attract new businesses to an area."

Bond also mentions that there is economic evidence indicating most services are more efficiently delivered by the private sector, including commercial real estate projects, rather than municipal governments. "There is the potential for public funds to be wasted if a business park or real estate project is not successful."
