  • The UC American Marketing Association student chapter received the Student Marketer of the Year Award for bringing together marketing students from the Midwest for the first annual regional marketing conference.

Student leaders from the College of Business' American Marketing Association (AMA) received the Student Marketer of the Year Award during the Cincinnati professional chapter's annual awards banquet on Thursday, May 5, 2011.

The UC AMA executive team, led by president Alex Spidare and consisting of Taylor Brooks, Brian Jacobs, Wes Mergard, Ryan Doughton and Lindsey Freson were recognized for planning the first annual Regional Marketing Conference, called "Moving Forward: the Future of Marketing, Branding and YOU." This two-day event, held February 4-5, 2011, brought together six universities and 50 student leaders from Ohio and Michigan to learn about trends in marketing, personal branding, and professional career advice specific to the industry.

Student attendees heard from keynote speaker, Pete Healy, vice president at Gyro HSR, on the future of marketing. Break out sessions discussing trends in marketing, market research and personal branding were also presented by LPK's Michael Wintrob, RL Repass' Will Krieger and UC's Ric Sweeney. The afternoon concluded with a career panel including UC Graduates Jennie Vose from Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, Chris Hoffer from Paycor, and Brian Botos from the Dayton Dragons.

"This award reflects the passion and dedicated spirit this team of student leaders have for marketing," says Ric Sweeney, assistant professor of marketing at the UC College of Business. "The inaugural event was a great success, and we plan to continue the conference each year."

In addition to receiving the Student Marketer of the year award for two years in a row, the UC student chapter was recently recognized by the AMA for excellence in chapter planning, programming and fundraising, and received a special merit award for their celebration of National Marketing Week.
