  • Summit podcast features keynote speaker Kenneth W. Lowe, president and CEO of Scripps Networks Interactive, discussing the changing habits of media consumers.

In October 2009, a sold-out crowd of area marketing and business leaders gathered on the University of Cincinnati Uptown Campus at the Kingsgate Marriott Conference Center for the 2nd Annual UC Marketing Summit. Presented by the MS-Marketing program at the UC College of Business, the event featured keynote speaker Kenneth W. Lowe, president and CEO for Scripps Networks Interactive, who led a discussion on "Accountability and Interactivity? The Future of Global Media."

At the core of Lowe's presentation were the changing habits of media consumers, which are driven by the rapid evolution of new media technology; the inconsistency of ubiquitous media platforms with undefined business models; and the growing expectations of media consumers for more accountability. He offered insight into how Scripps is "adapting to the shifting paradigm" by using new media platforms to reach and interact with more consumers and build stronger brands, a task that is made more complex as technology evolves and the "rules are changed overnight."

Following Lowe's keynote speech was an interactive session facilitated by Drew Boyd, UC College of Business faculty member and executive director of the MS-Marketing program. The session engaged the audience to discuss possible answers to the questions posed about the changing media landscape.

The UC Marketing Summit was conceived in 2008 with the vision to present a compelling forum in which marketing and business professionals, as well as students and alumni, could gather to connect with the best and brightest from regional and Greater Cincinnati businesses about emerging trends in the field.
