A December 6, 2010 article on names UC College of Business professor James Kellaris "Dr. Earworm" for his research on the "earworm" effect, which states that the three characteristics of repetitiveness, simplicity and incongruity are why songs stick in a loop in the mind. This research supports the concept of the new Sideways iTunes app, Earworms, which provides 20 unforgettable songs that can be e-mailed to "infect" a friend or enemy.
