  • The University of Cincinnati has chosen three College of Business professors to receive university recognition.

In May 2010, three College of Business professors will receive awards from the University of Cincinnati (UC). Ann Welsh, professor of management, and B.J. Zirger, interim management department head and associate professor of strategic management, will be honored at the 2010 Faculty Awards Celebration on May 4 with a Faculty Senate University Service Award and an Academy of Teaching and Learning Fellowship, respectively. Amit Raturi, quantitative analysis and operations management professor, will receive the Just Community Award at the University of Cincinnati Recognition Ceremony on May 16.

The Just Community Award is bestowed upon an individual who displays a high standard of contribution to student life both within one's college and the campus community. Raturi receives the award in recognition of his work creating and leading the Back to Business program, a free mini-course designed to bring recently displaced mid-level managers up to date on the latest trends in business.

Ann Welsh, professor of management, will receive a Faculty Senate University Service Award in recognition of her contributions to UC, the College of Business and the Department of Management. A member of the Faculty Senate since 2004 and chair of the University Faculty from 2006-2008, Welsh is also a member of the Academy of Management, Phi Kappa Phi, Beta Gamma Sigma and the Organizational Behavior Teaching Society. She is the past recipient of the University of Cincinnati's Mrs. A.B. "Dolly" Cohen Award for Excellence in Teaching, the College of Business Faculty Research Fellowship (2002-05), the College of Business Harold Grilliot Award for Outstanding Service to Students (1996) and the University of Cincinnati Faculty Achievement Award of Excellence (1994). She is also an inaugural member of the Fellows of the Academy of Teaching and Learning.

B.J. Zirger, interim management department head and associate professor of strategic management, will be recognized as a new fellow of the Academy of Teaching and Learning and will be inaugurated into the Academy at its Annual Spring Banquet on May 6. Founded in 2007, the Academy focuses on the scholarship of teaching and learning, sponsoring biannual speakers and workshops on pedagogy. Zirger is the past director of UC's Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning (CET&L) and was director of the Distance Learning program at the College of Business for six years. She is also a member of the Academy of Management, the Strategic Management Society and the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) and serves on the editorial board of IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management.
