  • The UC Student Chapter of APICS, The Association for Operations Management, organized a gathering of over 50 students on Monday October 19, 2009 to help students learn more about the operations management major in the College of Business.

The UC Student Chapter of APICS, The Association for Operations Management, organized a gathering of over 50 students on Monday October 19, 2009. Along with the free food were answers to questions such as "Are you unsure of what exactly OM is? Ever wonder what you can do with your OM degree when you graduate?"

Professor Mike Fry co-coordinated an informal panel discussion on the many questions students had related to their major. Jim Tappel of the Division of Professional Practice made strong recommendations about co-ops and internships. Many students volunteered information about their internship and co-op experiences, how it helps their resume, as well as how it helps them learn class material better.

Professors Jim Evans, Mike Magazine and Amit Raturi answered questions on OM classes, job opportunities as well as their perspective on what OM is and what OM major do. Professor Mike Fry distributed handouts related to the OM major (courses to take etc.) and job opportunities from Career development and placement services. A questionnaire allowed students to suggest other events and activities for APICS. If you need this information please contact Mike Fry at mike.fry@uc.edu.

It was a fun, well-attended evening with plenty of pizza. APICS is off to a flying start for the year.
