  • UC College of Business students qualified to compete in the world final in Las Vegas after taking 1st Place in a regional information technology case competition.

On November 13, 2009, the student team of Danna Baida, Koustav Dasgupta and Dominic Varacalli made UC proud as they claimed a first-place victory at the regional round of the CA International Case Competition on the Strategic Value of IT Management , hosted by Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. The team beat a strong field of competitors from Carnegie Mellon University, University of Pittsburgh and Virginia Commonwealth University. The students' win has qualified them to advance to the world final competition in Las Vegas in May 2010, where they will face teams from 11 other regions around the world.

The International Case Competition on the Strategic Value of IT Management brings together students from business and information technology disciplines to demonstrate and evaluate the strategic value of IT management for an organization. Competition sponsors include CA Inc., the School of Business Administration at Oakland University, Eller College of Management at the University of Arizona and the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University.

The regional competition included the presentation of the case challenge to the competing teams, team preparation of the case solution, team presentations to the judges with a question-and-answer period, judge deliberation, feedback to all teams on their presentations, and the final results and awards ceremony.

Alex Lopes, MS-IS academic director and assistant professor in the College of Business, served as the UC team coordinator.
