Entrepreneurship Conference Features UC College of Business Experts

  • UC College of Business entrepreneurship experts Tom Dalziel and Larry Grypp , will present at the Entrepreneurs' Organization Cincinnati's Surge conference on Thursday, November 19.

Tom Dalziel, professor of entrepreneurship and strategic management, and Larry Grypp, president, The Goering Center for Family and Private Business, will be featured presenters at the Entrepreneurs' Organization Cincinnati's Surge: Creating an Entrepreneurial Wave of Growth conference. The event will be held at the Phoenix Hotel in downtown Cincinnati on Thursday, November 19, 2009 with presentations focusing on entrepreneurial business planning and sustainability.

Tom Dalziel will share his academic research on the influence of boards and top management teams (e.g., human capital and social networks) on entrepreneurial behavior (e.g., innovation and venturing) to present his session titled "Positioning for Growth: The Value of Advisory Boards." The workshop will discuss how entrepreneurs can best leverage other successful business people to help their businesses achieve and sustain rapid growth. Dalziel will also explain how to use advisory boards to foresee and solve problems that could otherwise threaten a great business idea, and how to build an advisory board.

In his presentation titled "Working with Family Members ? How to Avoid a Family Feud," Larry Grypp will leverage his deep experience in sales, management, business strategy and creating financial services products for family and private businesses to coach entrepreneurs on best practices for managing relationships and dramatically increasing the odds of success, growth, and longevity of family and private companies.

In addition to presentations by Dalziel and Grypp, faculty members and business professionals from a variety of institutions will address conference attendees. Other presenters include Dr. Joseph Kayne, Miami University; Bill Cunningham, Northern Kentucky University; Dr. Ginny Frings, Xavier University; and Curt Jones, Founder and President of Dippin' Dots, Inc.
