UC Student Team Advances to National PricewaterhouseCoopers Taxation Competition

  • A team of Carl H. Lindner Honors-PLUS students will compete as a top-five finalist at the national PwC xTAX competition in Washington, D.C.

Following a victory against six strong teams at the 2009 PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) xTAX competition at the University of Cincinnati, the student team "Make It Reign" has advanced as a top-five finalist to compete at the national level in the company of teams from Arizona State University, Baylor University, Ohio State University and University of Florida. As a reward for their outstanding efforts, the team will receive $10,000 cash and travel to Washington, DC in January 28?29, 2010 to meet with experts from PwC's Washington National Tax Services Group and participate in the exciting two-day final competition.

The five members of "Make It Reign"? Robel Kidane, Kyle Quinn, Max Schneider, Sarah Stenger and Janelle Wichmann?are all Carl H. Lindner Honors-PLUS students. Ric Sweeney, a member of the UC marketing faculty, serves as the team's faculty mentor.

The national winning team will receive the esteemed Hamilton Award, named after Alexander Hamilton, the first Secretary of the US Treasury, who set the first tax policy. The award, a silver bowl, resides at PwC's Washington National Tax Service office in Washington, DC. The names of the members of the winning team will be inscribed on the bowl's base, and each winning team member and their faculty mentor will receive a replica of the award to bring home as a symbol of their triumph.
