Study Abroad Student Profile
Accounting and Marketing
Engagement on campus:
CRU and Rallycats member
Location and type of program:
Faculty-led program to London.
Why did you chose your program?
I had never had the chance to go out of the country and I chose to go to London as I felt that it would be an easier place to start since I would not have to worry about the communication barrier.
How did you afford an international experience?
After receiving scholarships from COE and the LCB international office, I used the money that I had earned from the internship that I had over the summer to cover the rest of the costs.
What was your favorite class or academic activity abroad? Why?
I enjoyed visiting the Cass School of Business. I was able to interact with multiple students, who were coming from different countries to study there, and gain their perspective on what their experiences have been studying in a different place. We also got to listen to Dean Marianne Lewis give a presentation on leadership.
Prior to travel how did you prepare yourself to experience a new culture?
I took some time to study some of the bigger cultural differences between the UK and the U.S. such as hand gestures, personal interactions, and commonly used phrases and idioms.
How has study abroad influenced you career path?
After studying abroad, I will be looking for more opportunities to travel and study abroad while in college, maybe even a potential co-op abroad.
What accomplishment are you most proud of during your time abroad?
I was able to step out of my comfort zone and interacted often with fellow classmates that I did not yet know. I also branched out towards some of the people that we met and talked to while in London that I was able to make further connections and friendships with.
In your opinion, why should every student study abroad?
I feel that every student should study abroad because it is a good way to gain traveling experience for a reasonable price while also gaining valuable knowledge.
