Operations Excellence Graduate Certificate
Graduate students at UC typically develop a strong understanding of foundational knowledge in a specific discipline such as engineering, medicine, political science, etc. However, these students often then encounter many operational complexities in their jobs that are not covered in this foundational knowledge. This can include issues such as staff scheduling, supplier sourcing issues, managing logistical activities, etc. This is particularly true as students move into more managerial and administrative roles to advance their career. The proposed certificate program will:
- Prepare UC masters/doctoral candidates to leverage their deep technical, clinical, or creative background for success in the business world.
- Teach process analysis techniques and operational improvement models that can be applied in a variety of settings.
- Allow these students to be more competitive in today’s job market and to accelerate career-enhancement opportunities.
- The proposed certificate program offers several different tracks that can be tailored to a specific student’s interests are area of expertise.
The certificate requires 12 semester credits, consisting of one core course (2 semester credits) and three to five elective courses (10 semester credits). At least 6 credits of the 12 certificate credits must be specifically in Operations Management (corresponding to course numbers with an OM prefix).
