What is the difference between internships, part-time work, academic internships, and co-op?

Internships or part-time jobs: Provides students with work experiences. Positions are typically compensated and range from 10-30 hours per week, usually. There are no framework requirements and the role is entirely employer driven.

Academic internships: Provides students with work experiences directly related to their major. The academic internships are part-time and do not have to be compensated. The students receive academic credit for their work. There are minimal framework requirements to be a participating employer in the program.

Cooperative Education Program (co-op): Provides students work experiences directly related to their major. The co-op roles are full-time for the students and last 1 or 2 quarters in a rotational fashion (3-6 months).
