At the Undergraduate level, the Department supports majors in Finance and Real Estate.
The Finance Major consists of a core set of courses that provides students with the fundamental skills and the strategic mindset required for all career paths in finance. In addition, the major provides students the opportunity to specialize in specific career paths, including investment banking, commercial banking and financial institutions, investments, and corporate finance.
The Real Estate Major provides the student with core skills for analyzing real estate investment opportunities from the point of view of the individual, portfolio and strategic investor groups. The major is designed to help students who want a career in commercial real estate, the public sector, or with non-profits such as pension funds.
The Department also offers courses that count toward the International Business Major.
MBA
Both MBA core and elective courses can also be used to satisfy requirements in many of the MS programs at the College of Business.
The Finance PhD program is dedicated to developing tomorrow's scholars via a sequence of highly structured graduate coursework. The program begins by developing basic research skills from the tools of economics, statistics, and mathematics. Building on this foundation, the program offers seminars covering all the major areas of financial economics including the microeconomic foundations of finance, corporate finance, asset pricing, financial contracting, market microstructure, real estate, and financial intermediation. In addition to coursework, in order to prepare Ph.D. students for successful job searches and academic research careers, the Ph.D. curriculum is geared toward having students conduct original research throughout the program through participation in departmental research seminars, independent and faculty-directed research papers, and formal and informal faculty and peer mentoring.
