Undergraduate Programs in Economics

Economics is a fascinating subject, poised at the intersection between business and social science, and with great relevance for a wide range of public policy issues. Whether it is merely taking a few courses or choosing economics as a major, you will find economics an excellent preparation for careers in business and government and for further graduate and professional study.

At the University of Cincinnati, we offer two paths to a degree in economics: the BA-Economics and the BA-Business Economics. Each fits different student interests and goals.

Economics
The BA-Economics blends a curriculum comprised of liberal arts and economics courses. This mix serves students seeking a solid base of arts and sciences, as well as more extensive economics coursework. Students in this program often complement their degree with a double major or a minor in the McMicken College of Arts and Sciences (e.g., mathematics, political science, area studies). This strong foundational program is also popular for students working toward a graduate degree in economics, business, law or a medical field.

Business Economics
The BA-Business Economics program integrates liberal arts, business and economics coursework. This degree builds a strong business foundation, as students examine business function and their interactions with economics. The program is well designed for students seeking to complement their degree with a double major or a minor in business (e.g., finance, accounting, marketing, international business).
