Louisville, KY, December, 2011. The 2011 University of Cincinnati Spirit of Enterprise Champion from the University of Louisville, TNG Pharmaceuticals, developer of FlyVax, continues to make excellent progress toward the development and success of their new venture. After winning the UC Spirit of Enterprise Graduate Business Plan Competition in February, 2011, TNG Pharmaceuticals went on to win both the Rice Business Plan Competition and the Venture Labs Investment Competition at the University of Texas. All three wins and over $500,000 in winnings were instrumental in bringing attention to TNG and several steps closer to market. TNG and FlyVax have been featured in Fortune Magazine, Inc. Magazine, and The Wall Street Journal. This Fall, TNG was named one of Louisville's Hot Dozen start-up companies as well as one of Global Entrepreneurship Week's 50 Most Innovative Companies with the Greatest Growth Potential.
“Over the past year, we have secured all available international patents that exist for our technology and we are beginning the process of executing the provisional patent. Our timeline for USDA approval is set, optimistically, at two years,” commented Jenny Corbin, one of the student co-founders of TNG. “We recently hired a regulatory consultant/scientific advisor, Dr. Michael Anderson, to guide TNG Pharmaceuticals through the rigorous USDA approval process, and we could not be happier to have Dr. Anderson on board.”
About TNG Pharmaceuticals: The goal of FlyVax is to systematically eradicate the horn flies that are plaguing cattle. There are 94 million cattle in the United States, with 36 million calves born each year. The horn fly is responsible for an average weight loss of 20-40 pounds per cow prior to slaughter, and a 50 percent reduction in milk yield per lifetime of a dairy cow. FlyVax is a revolutionary veterinary vaccine based on recombinant protein technology that disrupts blood-feeding by the horn fly and remains effective for the lifetime of the cow.
