VOC Diagnostics presents VitaLung, a lung cancer diagnostic device that can save 130,000 lives and over $2B annually in the U.S. alone. Using patent pending technology, VitaLung applies cutting-edge biomarker research to detect the presence of lung
cancer through the capture and analysis of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in a patient’s breath. VitaLung is a non-invasive, accurate, affordable and simple test for the early detection of lung cancer. The technology at the core of VitaLung is currently undergoing a human efficacy trial, and current results show an accuracy of more than 85% and a false positive rate of less than 15% on over 120 patients tested. With an exclusive option to license the technology from the University of Louisville, VOC Diagnostics’ driven management team and experienced advisors have developed a comprehensive plan to take VitaLung to market. VitaLung will save money and, more importantly, save lives!

Data Storage failures, one of the leading causes of company downtime, account for billions in lost revenue across the globe. These failures are unfortunately unavoidable, but with the EverFile System in place, organizations can rest easy knowing that these outages will be limited to seconds, instead of the hours incurred with current solutions. The EverFile System transfers thousands of pieces of single data sets simultaneously among available networks and reconstructs missing data even if only a portion of the set is available, which enables faster operational connectivity and better storage failure recovery than current solutions. Data should be virtually immortal and always accessible.

SHHADE
SHHADE uses business intelligence to determine which patients are the most expensive to hospitals and insurance companies. Using healthcare analytics, SHHADE then determines which of these patients are over-utilizing emergency room services for chronic disease management. Patients qualify for our program if their diagnosis is one of these chronic manageable illnesses: asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia, or congestive heart failure. These patients will be enrolled in our medical home model program, which specializes in providing preventative health care services directly at the patient's home. SHHADE specializes in closely monitoring patient's health, educating patients about their disease process, and motivating patients to become active participants in their own long-term health and well-being. The long-term goal of SHHADE is to provide quality healthcare to patients, thus reducing their pain and suffering while reducing the burden of the healthcare costs to hospitals and insurance companies.

Every 16 seconds someone dies of AIDS. Children become orphans. Families lose loved ones.
Studies have shown that adult male circumcision can reduce the rate of heterosexual HIV transmission by up to 60%. Consequently, the WHO has recommended that over 38 million uncircumcised adult African males be circumcised to prevent HIV infection. This effort will cost $1.5billion. However, only 1.3 million males out of the target population had been circumcised by 2011. Current procedures are too expensive, painful, of poor quality and lack an innovative device to speed up the process.
ParadigMed addresses these shortcomings with our patent-pending Circumex® adult male circumcision device. This is a cost-effective, disposable, non-surgical device that can be used in an outpatient setting, fully addressing the WHO’s challenges.

Using the patent pending PowerGenie™ smartphone WattApp™ technology, consumers can easily and remotely control both active and passive energy use in the homes and businesses. The PowerGenie™ is targeted towards residential homes, but as it gains momentum it will appeal to a broader target market, such as small businesses, office buildings, and one day find itself in every niche of the energy efficiency market.

Neural Analytics offers a non-invasive solution for measuring a critical physiologic parameter that currently requires a neurosurgeon to drill a hole in the patient’s skull. The device, RapidICP, has a patented method to noninvasively measure intracranial pressure (ICP) using a portable, inexpensive ultrasound device that can be used by a trained technician. No clinically accepted medical device exists for noninvasive ICP assessment. As a consequence, the practice of ICP assessment has been limited to brain injury patients in neurocritical care units. Intracranial hypertension (IH, increased ICP) is a life-threatening condition in severe traumatic brain injury (TBI), and it has been shown that ICP monitoring significantly reduces mortality rates in this patient population. With nearly ten years of academic development and funding through NIH grants, the group has developed a promising new algorithm to expand the use of the well-established ultrasound technique known as Transcranial Doppler (TCD) to noninvasively diagnose IH. The technology, RapidICP, is based on recognition of distinct patterns in the pulsatile cerebral blood flow velocity (CBFV) signals that are associated with IH.

Bladder cancer is historically one of the most lethal types of cancer and the most expensive cancer to treat per patient. Since the beginning of 2011, there have been over 14,000 deaths caused by bladder cancer and about 70,000 new diagnoses in the United States. As a result, there is a desperate need to develop a novel, non-invasive diagnostic method that can exhibit high specificity as well as sensitivity so that patients can be treated at an early stage of cancer. We developed Urelease, a therapeutic vibrating belt that shakes the patient’s lower abdomen in order to increase the concentration of cancer cells in urine samples. This will provide a non-invasive, painless, and reliable procedure that can increase the sensitivity of the urine cytology for early diagnosis of bladder cancer. It should be noted that urine cytology is already a very specific test because the pathologist can confirm the presence of cancer with 100% certainty when cancer cells are collected.

About the UC Center for Entrepreneurship Education & Research
The University of Cincinnati’s Center for Entrepreneurship Education & Research seeks to create a world-class center for entrepreneurship education, research and service. Founded in 1997, the E-Center’s vision and mission is to provide a state-of-the-art entrepreneurship curriculum and research base not only for potential student entrepreneurs and scholars, but also for people in the many organizations that interact with small, entrepreneurial and family owned businesses on a daily basis. The E-Center seeks collaborative efforts between students and faculty from across the University to remove barriers and create gateways to entrepreneurism.
Under the leadership of the Center’s Founder/Executive Director, Dr. Charles H. Matthews, the University of Cincinnati was ranked as one of the top 50 programs for Entrepreneurship in the U.S. in 2001 (Success Magazine); one of the top 100 programs in the U.S. (Entrepreneur Magazine) in 2003, 2004, and 2005; and a top 25 (#21) undergraduate entrepreneurship program (The Princeton Review/Entrepreneur Magazine) in 2008.
