Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management

The Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management degree (BSIM) is an engineering based program designed for students with strong technical and quantitative abilities who desire management careers. Majors may begin their program of study as freshmen in the College of Business or transfer into the program from College of Engineering.

The BSIM enjoys an outstanding reputation and recruiters throughout the Midwest compete for its quality graduates. Positions offered recently to graduating students include production manager, manufacturing engineer, industrial marketing representative, and purchasing manager, among others. Salaries are typically in the 90th percentile of other graduates from the College of Business. Recently a Vice President of Purchasing at a major automobile firm commented, “The alumni base of BSIM from Cincinnati is really strong. BSIM graduates from UC are in top positions in every firm in the automotive industry supply chain. We run it!”.

Co-op is strongly encouraged in the BSIM program. Field Projects in advanced classes and independent study options emphasize experiential learning. Co-op education provides the students with valuable work experience as well as a foundation for contextual learning. Students can then relate better to the classroom learning in their elective courses in the Junior/Senior years. It also enhances their attractiveness to prospective employers upon graduation.

The BSIM is one of the few undergraduate programs of its kind in the nation. It provides the operations management training to technically oriented students who share their first two years of education with engineering students. The graduates from the program are recruited vigorously. A benchmarking study conducted in 1996 by the University of Cincinnati indicated the clear superiority of the technical and quantitative background provided to the UC Industrial management graduate. Research by faculty who run the BSIM program is ranked fourth in the nation amongst all business schools.
