The 28th Annual Cincinnati Business Achievement Awards

Before a record crowd of more than 600 business alumni, leaders and educators, the University of Cincinnati Carl H. Lindner College of Business Alumni Board of Governors once again bestowed its annual Cincinnati Business Achievement Awards on February 20, 2013, in the Presidential Ballroom at the Westin Cincinnati.

The 28th annual event, known as Cincinnati’s longest standing event recognizing business achievement and community service, emphasized the accomplishments and support of individuals and business partners who make an impact in the Lindner College of Business, the Cincinnati community and the global business world. Local 12 news anchor Rob Braun emceed the event and announced the awardees of the evening.

Kenneth W. Stecher, BBA ‘75, chairman of the board at Cincinnati Financial Corporation, received the Carl H. Lindner Award for Outstanding Business Achievement. The award, presented to him by his son-in-law Larry Smith, exemplifies an entrepreneurial spirit with commitment to business, community and the highest level of success within one’s profession.

Marvin P. Kolodzik, BBA ’59, retired division president at Emerson Electric Company, and Valerie L. Newell, chairman and managing director, RiverPoint Capital Management, were awarded the Distinguished Service Award for their individual commitment to the college, UC as a whole, and/or the Cincinnati community. Lindner College of Business Dean David M. Szymanski presented the awards.

PNC received the Business Partnership Award for its substantial support to the UC Real Estate Center, as well as to the Lindner College of Business, as well as. Dean Szymanski and the college’s Board of Governors President Troy Neat presented the award to Kay Geiger, president of Ohio and Northern Kentucky Regions of PNC Bank.

Sally Amkoa, BBA ’13, was awarded the Carl H. Lindner Scholarship—one of the oldest that bears the Lindner name— in recognition of her outstanding academic achievement as a Marvin P. Kolodzik Business Scholar and member of University Honors. Amkoa, an economics major, has made the dean’s list each term of her UC stint.
