Academic Programs

The accounting department offers four degrees: Bachelors of Business Administration (BBA), Masters of Science in Accounting (MSAcc), MS Tax, and a PhD in Business with a concentration in accounting. The BBA degree is designed for students who want to work in the field of accounting.  The MSAcc (in combination with the BBA) satisfies the requirements to sit for the CPA exam in Ohio and most states and is designed for students who want to enter the field of public accounting. The PhD in accounting prepares students for an academic career with a coursework that provides the tools and knowledge to do original research in a variety of areas.

 

Undergraduate

Major in Accounting: requires the completion of 8 accounting courses, beyond financial and managerial principles: Intermediate Accounting I and II, Cost Accounting, Consolidated Financial Statements, Tax I, Advanced Financial Reporting, Auditing, and Non-Profit Accounting.


Graduate

MS Accounting: This program, when combined with an undergraduate business degree in accounting satisfies the education requirements to sit for the CPA exam in the State of Ohio and almost all other states and jurisdictions. The program is offered in both full-time and part-time formats and can be taken by students with a bachelors degree in Accounting (30 semester hours), a non-Accounting business degree (48 semester hours), or a non-business degree (55 semester hours).

The program is designed for:

  • Students with a baccalaureate degree in accounting (30-semester graduate credits)
  • Students with non-accounting business degrees (48-semester graduate credits)
  • Students with non-business degrees (55-semester graduate credits)

MS Taxation: The MS in Taxation Program is an online degree program which, when added to a business baccalaureate degree in accounting or its equivalent, satisfies the education requirements to sit for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Examination in the state of Ohio and almost all other states and jurisdictions. The program also is designed to develop the technical competencies required for advancement in the tax accounting profession as well as the softer skills, like leadership, communication and cultural awareness, which prepares our graduates to excel in the relationship-based tax accounting industry.

Students in the MS in Taxation Program will take up to 12 credit hours per semester in an online delivery modality, and can be completed in as little as 12 months. The length of the program will also vary, depending upon whether the student has a baccalaureate degree in accounting, a non-accounting business degree, or non-business degree.


PhD

The PhD program prepares students for academic careers in accounting. Students graduate with a comprehensive understanding of the literature in the field and the expertise necessary to engage in high quality research that is meaningful to academics and professional accountants alike. Through close interaction with faculty mentors, students develop research design, modeling and writing skills that are critical to success in the field. We value students with an interest in research and teaching, professional experience and certifications, and strong analytical and problem solving abilities. Our program capitalizes on our student’s professional accounting experience as the basis for developing high quality research that is timely, relevant and informative.
