Professional Summary
Dr. Lewis's work addresses paradoxes that impede and enable innovation. In particular, Dr. Lewis explores the need to manage paradoxes in three domains. The first is product development, investigating how managers foster flexibility, creativity and passion as well as control, focus and discipline. She also studies the implementation of advanced manufacturing technology - a process innovation replete with tensions (e.g., deskilling/empowerment, efficiency/customization). Third, in the broader realm of learning, she examines paradoxical thinking and its value to theory building, pedagogy, leadership and governance. Her research appears in top journals worldwide, including her paper, “Exploring Paradox: Toward a More Comprehensive Guide,” which won the 2000 Best Paper Award for the Academy of Management Review.
